Top 10 Nikola Tesla gift Ideas for science lovers

Some also call Nikola Tesla the greatest geek who ever lived.

Nikola Tesla (or Никола Тесла; 10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist (my favourite one) best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. But he is also responsible for the invention of radars, x-rays, hydroelectric plants (like the Niagara Falls one, cryogenic engineering, transistors, remote controls, neon lighting, the modern electric motor and wireless communications.

Plenty of biographies glamorise Nikola Tesla and his eccentricities, but until now none has examined as carefully what, how, and why he invented. This book about Tesla meticulously charts both his accomplishments  and his failures.

In it, W. Bernard Carlson demystifies the legendary inventor, placing him within the cultural and technological context of his time and focusing on his inventions themselves as well as the creation and maintenance of his celebrity.

This major biography sheds new light on Tesla’s visionary approach to invention and the business strategies behind his most important technological breakthroughs.

About the Author: W. Bernard Carlson is professor of science, technology, and society in the School of Engineering and Applied Science and professor of history at the University of Virginia. His books include Technology in World History and Innovation as a Social Process: Elihu Thomson and the Rise of General Electric, 1870-1900.

Edison, Marconi, and others may have gotten all the glory, but recently Nikola Tesla’s star has been ascendant – especially now that science and the public are catching up to the once-eccentric ideas of this visionary, mad scientist, and natty dresser.

Now Tesla can keep you company in an intense-yet-cuddly version that measures approximately 12″ standing. And he’s still a natty dresser. The list of Tesla’s experiments, inventions, and hundreds of patents reads like the plot points of an amazing science fiction movie: Electromagnetism, AC power, fluorescent lights, earthquake machine, x-rays, steam engine, helicopterplane,  radio waves from space… And, of course, the Tesla coil. Why collect books when you can collect the authors, and more? These dolls of famous figures, politicians, artists, theorists, scientists, and rebels make smart and clever gifts.

    • Tesla plush. Little thinkers are not stuffy intellectuals – they’re stuffed intellectuals.
    • Let our little thinker dolls add a dollop of culture and humor to your shelves. Collect them all and surround yourself with the greatest minds – in plush form!
